Book Clubs

  • Students will read, discuss, and write about highly-engaging, relevant, and complex texts that are selected by our expert team of tutors. Students are expected to read the text, participate in discussions, and work on writing with support from our team of tutors as well as peers.

Book Clubs are an excellent way to have students read more and explore literature in a structured and supportive environment.

In addition to academic practice, a key goal of Book Clubs is to help students develop more confidence as readers and find more joy in literacy.

Book Clubs are typically run virtually, but In-person support can be considered for local groups and students from the same district or area.

  • Throughout these sessions, students will receive:

    • An organization and time management planner for successfully completing their reading and work.

    • Supported discussions about the book to check their comprehension and develop an understanding of how to discuss literature.

    • Feedback sheet with ways to develop their work as they continue their work on their own in between group sessions.

    • Written tasks that will challenge them to think analytically about the book as well as reflect on the content and their lives.

    • Peer support and encouragement about reading and writing.

  • Students may create groups of peers, or they can join a group of students from other schools. We can organize these arrangements for students and families.

A minimum of three students is required for groups to run. Groups are capped at five students, unless mutually agreed upon by all students creating the group.

  • We will work with your student’s schedule, as well as the schedules of the other students in the group, to find the best time for your book club to meet.

  • Price begins at the base-level tutoring rates, and will be determined by length of commitment and complexity of book study.
